Abstract
Videoconferencing systems are multimedia
communication systems, which have the ability to transfer both sound
but pictures thus allowing audiovisual communication. In spite of
many advantages, communication by means of videoconferencing systems
has certain disadvantages compared to face-to-face communication,
which were proved in many researches including the one taken few
years ago on the students of Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb.
Although the initial attitude of students
towards videoconferencing is positive, there are certain situations
in which they prefer face-to-face communication. Reasons for this
preference are certain limitations that videoconferencing systems
have in transferring nonverbal communication signs, which make this
type of communication different from the face-to-face communication.
