Applications of desktop videoconferencing systems in education

 

Abstract

Videoconferencing systems permit two or more persons in different location to attend a meeting in the equivalent of face-to-face communication. The real-time communication can be used to improve quality of distance learning. Basic definitions of videoconferencing systems and their basic characteristics are given in this article. Lotus Sametime system, which is used by CARNet for virtual teamwork, is detailedly described as well as example of using this tool for synchronized communication inside distance learning system.
