Desktop videoconferences in education
- working in distributed teams -

 

Abstract

Desktop videoconferencing (DVC) enables exchange of video and audio over computer network. Basic requirements are: computer with sound card, microphone and PC speakers, or headphones, appropriate software and connection to a computer network. With Internet connection, DVC call can be established with any person, anywhere in the world, which satisfied basic requirements and is present on the Net at the same time. DVCs are applicable for business, fun and education. The word "desktop" means that they should be used from users' PC, and are therefore suitable for less number of users at one point. In education, professors, as well as students can meet each other in the virtual world. Mentorship, meetings, discussions, teamwork of students and/or professors - reasons are numerous - even exams should be considered.
Easy to use, with basic conditions already fulfilled for a number of users, desktop videoconferences can on the top of frequently used Internet services.
