First Croatian LMS

Abstract

The first Croatian management product for on line learning is called e-Learner and it was developed by IT Center. E-Learner falls into generic category under the name Learning Management System (LMS). It's primary role is enabling the student for e-Learning usage, e.g., attending on line courses and other educational content (like faculty classes, for example). Outside that primary role, LMS enables enrolment and charging, testing, mentoring and tracking, communication (of virtual classroom members, mentors and students and other actors), administration of the system, and various assistant functions.

Generally speaking, E-Learner could be implemented in enterprise systems as intranet solution or as public portal, open to everyone, under specific commercial conditions. E-Learner is based on SCORM – the set of standards developed and united by the initiative group of the Ministry of Defense of USA, called ADL (Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative), which is de facto driving force behind the process of standardization in this field.
