European Community assistance programmes

• part of the Stabilisation and Association process (SAP)
• CARDS Assistance Programme was introduced in 2000,
• offers a long-term assistance approach that addresses the needs of the five countries, including Croatia

In the period 2001-2004, some 228 million euro will be channelled to Croatia through CARDS

CARDS assistance focuses increasingly on support for the reforms and institution building necessary to implement the obligations in the Stabilisation and Association Agreements.

Around 10% of the available CARDS budget will be directed to supporting this regional cooperation component - (197 million euro in the period 2002-2004)
