History

In November 1989, the so-called Quadragonal was founded in Budapest, which was renamed into Pentagonal after the Czech Republic joined it in 1990, and into Hexagonal after Poland joined it in 1991.

After the disintegration of the former Yugoslavia, three independent states joined in - Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina; it was at that point that this international organisation acquired its present name, the Central European Initiative, currently constituted by 16 member countries: Albania, Austria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Italy, Hungary, Macedonia, Moldavia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine.
