Participation programme

This refers to the programme encompassing the application of long-term projects (minimum project duration being two years). The funds must be partially provided by other sources as well. It is of major importance that the projects applied be in accordance with the Organisation's activities drafted in UNESCO's Plan and Budget currently in effect. The Croatian UNESCO committee is responsible for selecting and transferring projects to UNESCO's head office.

The final decision on the amount of funds the Organisation is willing to provide is made in UNESCO's head office, with the project level (national, sub-regional, regional, interregional) as the main criterion. UNESCO's financial support amounts up to US$ 26,000 for national level projects, and up to US$ 35,000 for regional, sub-regional or interregional projects.

Projects being applied should meet the following basic criteria:

  • Project applicant: a reputable institution capable of meeting high standards of expertise and logistic execution and support (infrastructure, staff etc.)
  • Project framework: compliance with the document of UNESCO's Plan and Budget currently in effect, as well as scope sufficient to enable different areas of work to be covered by the project (e.g. education, publishing etc.)
  • Project duration: two years minimum, with an emphasis on the necessity of further long-term execution
  • Project level: focusing on regional cooperation*
  • Partner-network dimension: relying on the presence of partner institutions in the country as well as in the region

* As a UNESCO member country, Croatia belongs to the region Europe and North America and, accordingly, regional cooperation implies cooperation within this region.
