DAC – Converting digital data into analogue signal such as that which is carried over from a sound card when a wave file is transferred into a sound signal or Line out.

DOS - (Disk Operating System) is a simple operating system developed by Microsoft which allows expansion to other programs.

Download – When a user is transferring data from a computer connected to the Internet to his PC we say he/she is downloading files.

DPI - Dots per Inch, resolution measure for scanning or printing.

Driver – program which allows the computer to use certain hardware. It always comes in a package with the hardware you bought.

DV - Digital video is a format for digital video signal recording, accepted in 1993. It was developed as a result of cooperation between the following companies: Hitachi, JVC, Sony, Matsushita, Mitsubishi, Philips, Sanyo, Sharp, Thomson and Toshiba.

- It supports two methods of recording sound. The first uses a two-channel 16-bit sound with pattern frequency of 48 kHz or 44.1 kHz. This is the record format we listen to on CDs. The second method uses a four-channel 12-bit sound with pattern frequency of 32 kHz. 12-bit sound is used when we want to acquire some type of dimension, such as the surround system.

- DV has a built in error protection system which enables the user to detect that the error has occurred, what type of an error was it and decide on how they will correct it. The advantage of DV is that it provides a high-quality picture and it enables the transfer of a recorded DV signal from a camera onto a computer for further processing. The transfer from the camera to computer is done through a special interface, FireWire (IEEE 1384, iLink). This way a DV signal from a camera does not have to be converted into analogue and back into digital format. Rather, it is transferred in a digital format and without data loss, which is the greatest advantage.

DVD - (Digital Video Disk) a type of a compact disc for digital data. The data is read by a red laser beam unlike from a standard CD from which they are read by an infrared laser beam. The maximum capacity of a DVD is 8,5 GB
