Package – Information is sent over the Internet in "packages"; parts of a file, each with their own address. Picture the packages as sealed envelopes containing a message with a written address on them. They all have to go through the system and most frequently reach the right address. The more envelopes the system has to process, the slower the procedure.

Page - "Page" is a name for the basic Web document, like the one you are just reading.

PAL – Phase Alternating Line. Standard for colour video signal encoding used in Europe and Croatia.

Password - Code; secret sequence of characters which enables only the authorized person to access the data.

PCX – Usual format of a picture file which can handle a scale of grey colours and bitmap images in colour.

Perl - (Practical Extraction and Report Language) Encrypting programming language generally used for searching text files, selecting data and printing formatted reports; It is very similar to AWK language, but it is more complex and efficient. Its author is an American programmer Larry Wall.

PGP - (Pretty Good Privacy) Encoding program, used on PCs, providing many possibilities. The author of this program is Philip Zimmerman, and it is based on RSA algorithm and a system of official encoding. 

Pixel – One of a thousand picture elements displayed on a screen. The smallest element of a picture.

Plug-In – There are many things a browser can show on a web page. Things which are beyond its reach require plug-ins. Some of the plug-ins are Shockwave or RealAudio – required both to play audio and video. 

Protocol – Procedure, the way in which computers communicate with each other over the Internet with the purpose to provide a service.

Proxy server – Server double; Network computer which performs the tasks addressed to another computer. Proxy server is often used on the Internet due to the congestion of some computers and in order to take the load off the main servers and direct the traffic towards one or more of their doubles.

Public domain – Software which anyone can use or change without authorization.
